Over 100 years ago, the lord Karuppasamy in the form of stone founded near cauvery bank, Musiri area. Unknowing the lord in the form of stone, a family taken the stone and started using it as a counter weight in the pump foe pumping water for their field cultivation, for their surprise the amount of water that should have been pumped in 4 days was pumped easily within 4 hours. While the family scared of this surprise, one night when 2 of the brothers in the family were at home, at 1a.m the lord Karuppasamy in the form of human voiced outside the house and called the elder brother to the field to pump water, to the surprise again water was pumped within few hours. The same continued on the next day both these days elder brother can only see the shadow of the human; could not clearly view the human whom he follow to the field. Now family in the fearsome state as the elder brother fallen sick, thought it might me be some unravelling spirit trouble the family. The next day when Karuppasamy happened to continue his play at 1a.m once again this time the elder brother did not opened the door instead he asked the human to put his hand below the door, when he did, the elder brother punched the hand with the heated steel rod which he already prepared for this situation. Karuppasamy in the form of human couldn’t bear the pain, cried, ran to the field and destroyed the fields for which he helped to pump water. After few days, the family with the help of a kodangi realized it was Karuppan who made all these daily events asked the god in what name should they call him. There seen a crane flying above, asked god to kill the crane, without any delay, the god cut the crane into 2 halves confirming him once again as Karupannasamy, thus the name of the god formed as KokkuVettiyanKaruppasamy. The temple is since maintained by the family and their generations.
